THE BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME SESSIONS with IAN CLAYTON & JACQUI WICKS
July 3 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm£10
THE BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME SESSIONS – VOLUME THREE.
When world music magazine Songlines reviewed Ian Clayton’s book Bringing It All Back Home they declared the reading experience to be ‘The literary equivalent of a great evening in the pub.’ In the dozen years since publication, Bringing It All Back Home is now in its seventh edition and has fast established itself as a modern classic of music writing.
BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME – THE SESSIONS
To make literal the Songlines review we are curating a series of in-conversation events that reflect the ethos of the book, incorporating the key themes of home, story-telling, music, film, books, artefacts and mementos.
The third in Ian Clayton’s ‘Bringing It All Back Home’ sessions sees him talking to Jacqui Wicks about, amongst other things, the role women have played in the development of the blues.
As the 100th anniversary of the first blues record, (Mamie Smith’s ‘Crazy Blues’) approaches, Jacqui is investigating and writing about such blues greats as Mamie and Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Ida Cox, Alberta Hunter and Memphis Minnie. As Ian is one of the most knowledgeable afficiandos of the genre it promises to be a fascinating conversation.
And if that wasn’t enough the woman with the voice of an angel singing lyrics that would make white van man blush is gonna be performing live – it’s a concert not to be missed brothers and sisters.
