THE CAT CLUB (CLASSIC ALBUM THURSDAYS) PRESENTS A LONG PLAYING VINYL RECORD:
UNKNOWN PLEASURES by JOY DIVISION.
JOY DIVISION’S UNKNOWN PLEASURES was released 40 years ago this year. It still resonates today, as the man from the BBC said:
“Unknown Pleasures borders on nihilism, but is pregnant with expectation. And like Bowie’s Low, once heard it’s never forgotten. It’s like going to the doctor and having your ears syringed. This is a sound that’s ready to explode. And it still feels personal.”
Presented by PAUL HANLEY.
As drummer for The Fall from 1980-1985 (playing on such classic Fall albums as ‘Grotesque,’ ‘Perverted by Language’ and ‘Hex Enduction Hour’) Paul Hanley was a veteran of the Manchester post-punk scene and witnessed the rise of Joy Division first hand.
His first book, ‘Leave The Capital,’ was published by Route in November 2017. The book tells the story of Manchester’s first professional recording studios – the first outside London – and the seminal records that were made there, Including ‘Unknown Pleasures,’ ‘I’m Not in Love’ and the Smiths’ debut album.
He once scored 21 on Ken Bruce’s Popmaster.
