DR JOHN: GRIS-GRIS. A CAT Club presentation.
July 25 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm£10
DR JOHN THE NIGHT TRIPPER: GRIS-GRIS.
WE’RE GONNA BE CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF THE LATE, GREAT DR JOHN BY FEATURING HIS MASTERPIECE, THE TRULY WONDERFUL GRIS-GRIS.
He first became a star by taking the sounds and traditions of New Orleans blues, jazz, and R&B and twisting them into new forms. As time went by, he would later become one of the strongest proponents of the Crescent City’s musical heritage, celebrating the songs that made that city great, as well as the men and women who made them. Throughout his career, he was widely recognised for his skillful and soulful approach to keyboards and the guitar, both on his own recordings and when backing other artists.
On hand to present the album will be our very good friend, HEATH COMMON. Heath is a music journalist, broadcaster, songwriter and a host of other things too. In light of the various tributes he’s been called on to make to Dr John in various media since the great man’s recent passing, we’ve invited Heath back to The CAT Club to share his assessment of Dr John’s music and legacy and his unique place in the history of music in New Orleans.
DAVE FOSTER is a working R&B musician, label record founder and producer. He has appeared throughout all aspects of media (including The Old Grey Whistle Test) talking about blues music. Dave will be in The CAT Club interviewer’s chair opposite Heath.
